FAQs

It's normal to think “Will this really work for me?” Our track record of 1000+ bike fittings proves that if you work hard and work hard, you too will achieve remarkable results. But if you're still unsure, here are the answers to the most frequently asked questions.

How can you be sure this works for me?

We know that our processes and methods work because they have been proven by 1000+ cyclists. However, it takes two people to dance the tango when it comes to bikefitting. Good results can only be achieved if both the fitter and the cyclist are willing to work together on a problem and explore all possible solutions. That's why we describe our bikefit project as a partnership. Fitting a bike is not a panacea or a recipe. But if you're willing to open up, come up with an inquisitive attitude, work hard, and take control of your fit, great things can happen! But if you have any doubts or questions in your head, you should answer them before you commit to a fitting.

I'm not a professional rider, my bike doesn't have to fit perfectly.

Riders often think they need to be a professional athlete to benefit from bike fitting. This is definitely not true. 99.9% of our bike fittings are done by amateur riders. Anyone who values cycling and cycles regularly can benefit from a bike fit. You make approximately 10,000 pedal strokes per hour. Would you rather repeat 10,000 good pedal strokes or 10,000 bad ones? If you invest many, many hours into cycling, why stop yourself in a bad position?

I have had bad experiences with fitting bicycles in the past.

At Optimal Cycling, we work differently. Our whole way of fitting is about providing our riders with as much knowledge as possible, so you can really understand why some choices work for you and others don't. The more you know, the better decisions you can make, for yourself! There is no “secret sauce” that we hide, just honest information and guidance. Our track record confirms this!

Bikefitting is expensive.

How much does your bike cost? How much do your wheels cost? How much does your bike wardrobe cost? Yes, cycling can be expensive, but a bike fit is the best investment you can make for your health and long-term cycling. It lasts for years, you can cover thousands of miles, it helps you get stronger and fitter and prevent injuries. And you can transfer it from bike to bike. Changing a cycling position is not easy. It takes time, hard work and dedication. But the reward is tenfold. Remember, nothing really worthwhile is easy!

I've been cycling without a bike fit for years, why do I need one now?

Cycling is an unburdensome, repetitive sport that is practiced in the most efficient form of transport known to man. This means you can get away with repeating bad exercise patterns for years and your body can easily find a way to absorb that extra bad exercise load. Some bodies are better at dealing with that extra stress than others. But the more stress you put on your body, at some point it will catch up with you. Trust me, I've experienced it myself and that's one of the reasons why I became a bikefitter. Another point you should be aware of is that our body changes. Your body is no longer the same as it was 5 years ago! The cycling positions must be adapted to your body, your mobility, your skills and your current cycling goals. If you need help figuring this out, ask an expert for advice and get your bike fitted.
