Shoe-Fit Lake shoes
At Optimal Cycling, we carry out a personal foot measurement to determine your most suitable cycling shoes. Within our Lake, Bont and Fizik range, we offer a wide selection that matches various foot types. Because cycling shoes are one of the most important contact points with the bike, an optimal fit and correct cleat adjustment are essential for comfort, efficiency and injury prevention.

What to expect during the Shoe-Fit
In addition to measuring the foot length accurately, we also look closely at the width and volume of both feet. Precisely because problems often arise when cycling shoes are too narrow or wide. During the analysis, we also look at the contours of the foot that can cause possible pressure points and the natural position of the feet.
Ultimately, after this analysis, you will know which shoe is most suitable for you personally. This applies to both road shoes — MTB and MTB winter shoes.
If we have found the right pair of shoes, it is often an added value to use a customized insole. If your foot is supported in the natural position, it has a positive effect on blood flow, more efficient power transfer to the pedals and stability of the knees. We work with several high-quality soles. And we offer full custom thermoplastic insoles. We can shape these to the foot with heat.
When measuring the foot, the footprint of the foot is measured. In addition, it is important that we also know the position of the leg. Based on this information, it will be determined which sole type suits you best. The soles come in different types so that there is the right sole for every type of foot.
Benefits of soles in cycling shoes:
- 13% improved knee stability
- 6.5 — 9.5% increase in muscle output
- 2.5 — 6.5% reduced recovery time
- 13% increase in mechanical efficiency
A disadvantage, however, may be that the sole takes too much space out of the shoe, making it too tight. Pair insoles with the right shoes!
Because we want to support the foot in its natural position, we also measure the Varus and Valgus (this is a tilt in the foot). And where necessary, we fill this up with wedges. The wedges are placed between the cleat and the shoe. This is to make the knee move back and forth as straight as possible. And to prevent overloads and pressure points.
